The evaluation

Who is the online ADHD assessment for?

The assessment is for adults aged 18 and over who want a proper clinical answer about ADHD. It suits people who have struggled with attention, organization, follow-through or restlessness since childhood, and people who have been treated for anxiety or depression and feel something is still being missed. We do not evaluate children or teenagers. You can read more about who tends to seek an evaluation and about adult ADHD symptoms.

Which states do you serve?

All 50 states and Washington, DC. Psychology licensing is state based, so we match you with a psychologist licensed in the state where you live, and you need to be physically in that state at the time of your video appointment. We confirm your state at the start of the evaluation and again before the appointment. If you travel out of state on the day, the appointment will need to be rescheduled, so plan to be home for it. Our how it works page explains the steps.

How long does the ADHD assessment take?

The online questionnaire takes about 45 minutes, and your answers save as you go. A licensed clinical psychologist reviews your responses within 48 hours of submission. The video appointment itself lasts 30 minutes, and your written report follows afterward. How quickly the whole thing is done depends mainly on when you book your appointment. See what to expect for a stage-by-stage description.

What happens during the video appointment?

The appointment is a 30-minute video call with your psychologist, run in your browser with nothing to install. It is a structured clinical interview that feels like a focused conversation: your psychologist asks when your difficulties began, how they affect your work, relationships and daily life, and follows up on anything in your questionnaire that stood out. They also consider other explanations such as anxiety, depression or sleep problems. By the end they will usually share their diagnostic impression and talk through next steps. Our what to expect page has more detail.

Clinical questions

Who reviews my assessment and makes the diagnosis?

A state-licensed clinical psychologist reviews your questionnaire responses, meets you for the video appointment and writes your report. The diagnosis is made against DSM-5-TR criteria by that psychologist, not by an algorithm or an automated score. Our psychologists are doctoral-level clinicians licensed to practice in the states we serve. You can read about our approach on the about page.

Is an online ADHD assessment as accurate as one in person?

Yes, when it is done properly. ADHD is diagnosed through a clinical interview, a symptom history and validated rating scales, and all of these work over video. A systematic review found that test results gathered by videoconference did not differ significantly from in-person administration (Brearly et al., 2017), and the American Psychological Association’s telepsychology guidelines support assessment by video when a licensed clinician uses standardized tools. Some situations, such as suspected intellectual disability or neurological conditions, do call for in-person testing, and our psychologists will tell you if that applies. Read more on our accuracy of online testing page.

Can you prescribe ADHD medication?

No. We diagnose but do not prescribe. Your written report is prepared so that a prescriber, usually your primary care doctor or a psychiatrist, can use it to decide whether medication is appropriate for you. Reports from licensed clinical psychologists are widely accepted for this purpose. Our pages on medication management and treatment options explain what usually happens next.

Results and reports

How soon will I get my results?

A licensed clinical psychologist reviews your questionnaire within 48 hours of submission. At the video appointment your psychologist will usually share their diagnostic impression with you directly.

Your written diagnostic report is prepared after the appointment and delivered securely. It includes your diagnosis against DSM-5-TR criteria, your scores and their interpretation, any co-occurring conditions and recommendations.

What if the result is not ADHD?

A meaningful share of adults who seek an evaluation do not meet the full criteria, and that is a valid result. You still receive a complete written report. Because the evaluation also screens for anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, panic and substance use, and asks about sleep, the report explains what your results do suggest and recommends next steps. Your psychologist will discuss this with you at the appointment. See what to expect for more.

Cost and insurance

How much does the ADHD assessment cost, and when am I charged?

The complete evaluation costs $388, with no subscription. The $189 evaluation fee is charged when you submit the online questionnaire. The $199 appointment fee is charged 48 hours before your scheduled video appointment. For comparison, traditional in-person ADHD evaluations usually cost $1,500 to $3,000 or more. Full details are on our cost and insurance and pricing pages.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not bill insurance and are not in any insurer’s network. After your evaluation we provide a superbill, which is an itemized receipt listing the CPT codes for psychological evaluation, the diagnostic codes from your report and the dates of service. You can submit it to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement if your plan offers it; PPO plans often do, while HMO plans usually do not. We cannot guarantee reimbursement, so it is worth calling your insurer before you start. See cost and insurance for the questions to ask.

Can I pay with an HSA or FSA?

Yes. A diagnostic evaluation by a licensed psychologist is a qualified medical expense, so you can pay both the $189 evaluation fee and the $199 appointment fee with a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account card.

Because these accounts use pre-tax money, this lowers your real cost. Keep your payment receipt and superbill in case your plan administrator asks for documentation. We also accept major credit and debit cards.

What is your refund policy?

Fees are generally final once charged. We do not refund the evaluation fee if the result is not an ADHD diagnosis, because the clinical work is the same whatever the outcome. If you need to move your appointment, give at least 24 hours’ notice and we will reschedule it; missed appointments without notice are not refunded. If we have to cancel, we will reschedule or refund the appointment fee. The complete terms are on our refund policy page.

Privacy

Is my information private?

Yes. Our questionnaire platform, video appointments and report delivery are HIPAA compliant, and your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Only your psychologist and the staff who need access to run your evaluation can see your information. We release your report only to people you authorize in writing, so your employer or insurer never receives anything from us without your consent. If you have a specific question, please contact us.
